Welcome to Rob Rubottom Fine Art. Thank you for visiting the site and for your interest in and support of the arts.First off, just a little background. Raised on our family’s cattle ranch in Central California's San Joaquin Valley, I was fortunate enough to be exposed to natures incredible beauty on a daily basis. The creation of visual and physical arts has always played an important role in my life, while never afforded complete formal training in the arts. Growing up, I was able to involve myself with an array of creative activities which helped shape the artistic passions I feel the need to express today. I seized the advantage of numerous fine art courses and programs growing up and in college but eventually acquired an advanced education in science and business, which was followed by starting a family and then an extended career in Agra-business. Throughout the years, I never lost my enthusiasm for and need to create my art, continuing to involve myself with artistic creations of all natures. Early on, my wife Michelle and I worked our way through school by creating a small leather working and tooling business in conjunction with an established area saddle maker. Over the years, during my spare time, I continued leather tooling, dabbed in silver engraving, finish wood working, stained glass, photography, digital graphics design and numerous other creative efforts but for the last four decades, I have continuously worked on developing my skills in the discipline of traditional oil painting. I have worked in other mediums but have always found oils to be most intriguing. Early on, my efforts were often directed towards commissioned portraiture works, where I developed and further refined my skill-set within a predominantly thin layering realism style, which has for the most part, lead me to my more recent body of work. Today, my wife and I spend time between Eugene, Oregon, in the Southern Willamette Valley and Waldport, Oregon, on the Central Oregon Coast, where I maintain small in-home studios and actively continue to create my art. My mostly realism styled works usually employ dynamic chromatic and tonal value contrasts, normally with distinctive use of vibrant light and shadowing effects. Typically, I work with a vividly realistic color pallet and will concentrate on the development of compositional balance, effective tonal values, realistic color mixing, and detailed points of visual interest. The goal of my work is to provide me with an active outlet for my creative needs and to ultimately achieve my desired artistic end result. I maintain a simple but straight forward artistic philosophy, to paint what I see and embellish with what I feel. Hopefully, my art will stir a feeling of nostalgia or other emotional visual interest within the viewer, as I attempt to artistically record the incredible beauty found in nature, eye-catching structural or figurative interests or memorable everyday life events.Within the Artwork link above, click the link and choose from the desired art theme drop-down list to view a number of my works as an example of my creative expression or click the Exhibits link and choose from the list to see where a sample of my works can be viewed in person.
